Sarah: Your friendship these past few years have made me realize what I've been missing, and what I'm so grateful to have now. We joked about being two old ladies on rocking chairs living next door to each other once upon a time, and sometimes I think that isn't so far from the truth! We've realized we can live together and we can live hour away; we've been through some of our darkest moments and our happienst times, and while I tend to unconsciously push people away, you've pushed back. Your friendship has taught me so much, and I love that you're my best friend -- that you'll always be my best friend.

You've also taught me that the best conflict resolution is ice cream. Score.

Thanks, Dani! Friendship has always been something I've had troubles with because of these scenarios -- getting too close, then growing apart. But I've been lucky enough to find those people who have been with me through it all, who I know will continue to be there with me. Funny how we have those relationships in every aspect of our lives, even in the friendships we make via comments on a blog ;)

I heart you.

Also, the Vitamin C song lyrics you used to open this post struck me. That song was huge when we graduated from high school, and I really do remember envisioning at that time where I'd be when I was 25. It certainly wasn't in Lancaster, living with my fiance, working at a computer company. But life has that uncanny way of putting us just where we need to be. I couldn't be happier with the way my life turned out, even with the consistent closing and opening of chapters of friendships. I truly believe that the Universe sends us the people we need in our lives when we need them the most. Some people have starring roles and never quite leave the stage, even if they step off to stage right momentarily, and others simply have walk-on parts and abbreviated dialogue. All contribute to shaping the complete storyline.

Love this post, Susan. It's such a great write-up of the many layers of frienship and the impact of time on the different friendships that can come through our lives.
